Two trophies are awarded annually. The first is The Manzano Top Speed Trophy (presented to the Sprint Section in honour of Phil Manzano’s dedication, commitment and service to the club  over many years). The Second is the VMCC Sprint Section Champions Shield.

To be eligible you need to be VMCC members (not day members) who are pre entered and riding an eligible bike (i.e. adheres to 25 year rule). As we run a couple of invitation only events per year (such as the Brighton Speed Trials), these do not count as point scoring or otherwise eligible rounds as they are not open to all.

Winners trophies are awarded annually at the Section AGM and the recipient will receive a plaque which the winners can keep after their year of ownership for the real trophies.

Rules on which prizes are based:

The Manzano Top Speed Trophy

  • The winner will be the individual who has achieved the highest top speed (not time) during the season.

  • In the event of the speed trap not being available at any one meeting then elapsed time will be used for all calculations.

  • In the event of a tie then the following criteria will be used in this order (Speed, Time, Capacity, Stated age of machine (Oldest bike wins)

  • If a tie still prevails the trophy will be awarded upon the deliberation of the full section committee and their decision will be final.

Rules for the VMCC Sprint Section Champions Shield.

  • The winner will be the individual who achieves the most points during the season.

  • Points will be awarded as follows. 6 points for 1st. 4 points for 2nd. 2 points for 3rd place in your class per event.

  • If there is only one, two or three entrants in a class then the relevant points will still be awarded. This is to both, encourage entries into the less popular classes and not penalise those who already ride in the less populated classes.

  • This trophy could be won by any machine in any class as it is not speed or engine size related.

  • If an entrant enters two or more classes or machines then their best class result on the day will be used. The other entrants in the class will be awarded points as per their finishing place. For example, if rider one enters one bike in two classes and comes 1st in both he / she will be awarded 6 points only. The second place rider will get 4 points and so on and will not be ‘bumped up’ a place.

  • Also  the following criteria will be used. Additional points will be awarded as follows;

  1. If the winning run was the first run then 6 additional points will be awarded.

  2. If the 2nd run was the fastest then 5 points will be awarded and so on to run 6 which will attract 1 point.

  3. If there is only 1 entrant in the class then the fastest run will be assumed to be the winning run.

  • If a tie still prevails the trophy will be awarded upon the deliberation of the full section committee and their decision will be final.

  • The same criteria will be used to calculate  2nd & 3rd place awards.

General rules (both trophies)

  • Any protests as to machines age. CC or eligibility should be made on the day of the meeting as per ACU regulations.

  • The first six runs only will qualify.
